My Life - Written by You

A New Page About Us and For Us

Dear Classmates,

Welcome to the place where our stories come alive—the “My Life” page. Here, we weave our narratives, share our triumphs, and celebrate the twists and turns that have shaped us since our graduation from our beloved alma mater.

Why “My Life”?

This isn’t just a collection of autobiographies; it’s a living tapestry of our shared experiences. Think of it as that cozy corner at the reunion where we lean in, laugh, and reminisce. Except now, we’re doing it virtually, across miles and memories.

What Can You Write About?

Anything! Everything! The canvas is yours. Whether you’ve climbed mountains, raised brilliant grandchildren, or discovered a hidden talent for underwater basket weaving, this is your space. Share your joys, your passions, and even the quirky moments that make life uniquely yours.

  • The Grandkids: Tell us about those little adventurers who call you “Grandma” or “Grandpa.” Their laughter, their curiosity—it’s all part of your story.

  • Wanderlust: Did you sail the Mediterranean, hike the Andes, or explore quaint villages in Provence? Travel tales are like postcards from the soul.

  • Hobbies and Passions: From gardening to stargazing, from writing poetry to perfecting the art of the perfect biscuit—let’s hear about it!

Why We Need Your Voice

Life has a way of scattering us across the map. Some of us meet often; others, not so much. But this page bridges the gaps. It’s a chance to reconnect, to learn about the paths we’ve walked, and to celebrate the resilience that defines our class.

Calling All Classmates

Yes, you! Whether you’re a frequent face at reunions or a quiet observer from afar, your story matters. Let’s make this page a treasure trove of memories, laughter, and shared wisdom.

A Grateful Note

To those classmates who’ve already penned their tales—thank you! Your words are the mortar that builds this digital hearth.

Publication Schedule

We hope to get a fresh story every three or four months. It’ll be like opening a new chapter in a book we all co-author.

Enjoy the Journey

So, fellow Carver alumni, pour a cup of nostalgia, settle into your favorite chair, and explore “My Life.” May it remind you of the threads that bind us and the beauty of our collective journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

But I'm not a writer...

You don't have to be. The emphasis is on the story, not the writing of it.  Nobody can tell your story for you.

But my life is uneventful, insignificant...

No, it's not. You are worth getting to know...whether you have children or not. The person you are and have become matters to a great deal of people. You have experiences that may inspire and relate to others.

I don't have time...

Yes, you do...it's all in how you spend it. Is your memory in tact? Then, take advantage of this time you do have and draw upon your memory to write a story from your life.

I don't like to write...

I'm not suggesting you write a term paper. I'm suggesting you write about the easiest person in the world...YOURSELF! Everyone's favorite subject is themselves. Even if you are shy and don't like to be the center of attention, I'll bet you secretly wish you could. Why? Because it is human nature! We want to be known. It's a human need. We crave recognition, and there is nothing wrong with that. It's not selfish. It's normal!

What do I write about?...

GOOD QUESTION! Check out some of these writing prompts and exercises to give you some ideas. Also, read some of the stories in the Featured Memoirs section to see some examples of other life stories.

Then, go ahead and write something. Don't worry about your spelling and grammar...do the best you can. We'll proofread, edit, send you a draft for your okay before it gets published.

How long does it have to be?

As long or as short as you want, provided you include the basic elements of a story structure. As you can see in the Featured Memoirs, the length varies greatly. Read What Makes a Good Story, for some basic information.

Some Writing Tips:

  • It is customary to write your memoirs in the first person. Don't worry about overusing the word "I".

  • Tell the bad and the good...it's more interesting and believable.

  • Be gracious when writing about others...be truthful yet tasteful.

  • Do your best to get it right. You are producing a document based on memory, just do your best to keep it accurate.

  • Be yourself...the more true to yourself you are, the more you will shine. Don't try to be a "writer", instead, imagine you are writing a letter to your best friend. The words will flow more naturally, and people will relate to the real person that you are as opposed to someone you are trying to portray.

  • Most importantly, have fun! You'll find that this kind of writing is addictive, and you won't want to stop.

So, grab a pen or a keyboard and start writing!!!
